Apple Pay tracking · No bank login

Spending, taught back to you.

Spensei logs your Apple Pay purchases as you make them and tells you what's safe to spend today. Your purchases are stored on your phone, not our servers. Connecting a bank is optional.

What Spensei does

Apple Pay tracking

Set it up once and every Apple Pay purchase is logged and sorted for you, seconds after you pay. No bank login, no passwords.

Safe to spend today

One number for today, in the app and on your home screen and lock screen. It updates as soon as you pay.

A daily check-in

A short note each morning with today's number. Stay under it and your streak grows. Days under your number earn belts, and Spensei wears yours.

Subscriptions

Spensei spots charges that look like subscriptions, checks with you first, shows what each one costs over a year, and reminds you before it renews.

Ask about your money

Ask in plain words and get answers from your own numbers. For rates, funds or salaries, it looks up current information and tells you how recent it is.

Bank connection Beta

Optional. Link accounts through Plaid to add income, rent and bills. Rather not? Tell Spensei your income and fixed costs instead.

How Spensei uses Plaid

Connecting a bank is optional and goes through Plaid, an independent service. Spensei is not affiliated with or endorsed by Plaid Technologies, Inc.

  1. 1

    You choose to connect

Nothing is accessed until you tap Connect and agree.

  2. 2

You sign in at your bank

Sign-in happens inside Plaid Link, Plaid's own secure screen, along with any verification codes. Spensei never sees your username or password.

  3. 3

    The access token stays protected

Plaid gives the app a one-time token. Our server exchanges it over an encrypted connection for an access token, which is encrypted with a key held only on our server. The app never has it in a usable form.

  4. 4

    Read-only data

Our server fetches your balances and transactions from Plaid so the app can summarize them. Spensei cannot move money.

Security

Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 11, 2026

1. What we collect

Spensei doesn't need an account, a login or an email address. What it uses depends on what you turn on.

  • Apple Pay purchases. If you set up tracking, an automation you create in Apple's Shortcuts app sends Spensei the merchant, amount, card name and time of each Apple Pay purchase. Never your card number. Spensei has no access to Apple Wallet itself, and deleting the automation stops it.
  • Bank data. If you connect a bank, Spensei receives account names, balances and transactions through Plaid. Never your login.
  • What you tell Spensei. Profile details from setup (first name, age, province or state, income, expenses, savings, debt and goals), things you ask the assistant to remember, and any category corrections. These are stored on your device, where you can view and remove them in Settings. If you use the chat, the details it needs to answer you are sent with your question, as described in section 4.
  • Usage counts. Anonymous events such as "app opened", tied to a random ID the app creates on your phone. Never your name, your money or anything you type. The same ID lets our server apply the daily chat limit, so it stays the same if you reinstall the app. Our server also keeps short-lived technical logs for debugging and abuse prevention.
  • Ad measurement. The app tells Meta (Facebook) when it's opened, when setup is finished, and when a trial or subscription starts, so we can see whether our ads work. No financial data, name, email or advertising ID is sent. Meta also receives basic technical details such as device type and IP address.
  • Off unless you turn them on. Neither is sent until you turn on the Anonymous usage counts switch in Settings, under Privacy and AI. You can turn it off again there at any time.

2. Your purchases are stored on your phone

Apple Pay purchases are kept in encrypted storage on your iPhone. They aren't uploaded to or stored on our servers, and they're never sent to Plaid. Sorting, your daily number, streak and belts, subscriptions, limits, and flags for charges that look duplicated or unusually high are all worked out on the phone. Those flags are simple arithmetic, not fraud detection, so check with the merchant or your bank.

The only time purchase details leave your phone is when you chat with Spensei: a summary is sent so it can answer you, as described in section 4.

With your permission, Spensei sends a receipt after each purchase and a short note each morning. Both are written on your phone and can show on your lock screen unless you hide previews in iOS. You can turn either off in Settings. Widgets only get totals, never merchant names.

3. How we use it

Only to run Spensei. We don't sell your data, and we never share your financial information with advertisers.

4. AI and your consent

Spensei's assistant uses AI from Anthropic, PBC, a US company. Before any of your data goes to Anthropic, the app asks for your permission on a dedicated screen. Nothing is shared until you agree, and you can withdraw permission any time in Settings.

When you chat, your message, any image or file you attach, recent conversation, your profile and saved info (such as your first name, age, where you live, work, income, debts and goals) and a summary of your finances (balances, spending totals, and purchases with their shops, amounts and categories) are sent encrypted through our server to Anthropic to write the reply. Anthropic may keep this data for a limited time under its commercial terms. Your bank login is never included. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, this data isn't used to train their models.

For questions about current public information, such as interest rates, fund details or typical salaries, the AI may search the web, and Spensei shows how current the answer is. Your account numbers and balances are never part of a search. AI answers can be wrong, so check important figures with your bank or the official source. See Anthropic's privacy policy.

5. Where your data lives

  • On your device: purchases, profile, chats, saved info, corrections and the topics you ask about (used to suggest questions). All of it is erased when you delete your data or the app.
  • In your iCloud: if iCloud backup is on (it is by default), a small copy of your profile, saved info, the assistant's notes and your bank connection reference is kept in your private iCloud. We never receive it, and turning backup off or deleting your data erases it.
  • On our server: nothing about your purchases. Plaid access tokens are encrypted with a key only our server holds, and are revoked when you disconnect a bank or delete your data.
  • Payments are handled by Apple. We never see your card details.

Plaid, Anthropic, Meta and our hosting provider process data in the United States. By using Spensei, you agree to your information being processed there, where privacy laws may differ from yours.

6. Who we share with

We don't sell, rent or trade your information. We share only what each service needs: Plaid (bank connections), Anthropic (AI replies, after you agree), Apple (subscriptions), Meta (ad measurement events only) and our hosting provider. Each is bound by its own terms and protects your data to a standard comparable to this policy.

7. This website

No cookies, tracking or analytics. This site doesn't collect anything about you.

8. Security

We use TLS encryption in transit and access-controlled storage, and keep service keys on our server only.

9. Children

Spensei is for adults: you must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to use it, as the Terms of Service say. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you think someone under 18 has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under Canada's PIPEDA, the EU GDPR and California's CCPA/CPRA), you can access, correct, export or delete your information and withdraw consent. The quickest way is Settings → "Delete all my data", which revokes bank access at Plaid and erases your data. For anything else, email mokbel.huss@gmail.com and we'll reply within 30 days.

11. Changes

We may update this policy. We'll note material changes in the app or by changing the date above. Using Spensei after a change means you accept it.

Data Retention and Disposal

Effective: March 15, 2026  ·  Updated: October 1, 2026

1. Purpose and scope

This policy covers how Spensei keeps and deletes consumer data, including data from the Plaid API and related records on our systems. We keep data only as long as it's needed and delete it securely after that.

2. Collection

Financial data is accessed through Plaid only after you agree, used only to run the app, and limited to what its features need.

3. Retention

Data is kept only as long as its purpose requires. Retention is reviewed regularly, unused data is scheduled for deletion, and temporary and cached data are cleared automatically.

4. Deleting your data

  • In the app, Settings → "Delete all my data" erases your data and revokes bank access.
  • You can also email mokbel.huss@gmail.com, and we'll remove your data from active systems within a reasonable time.
  • Disconnecting a bank removes its Plaid access token, so no more data is fetched from it.
  • You can revoke access at any time through Plaid's portal at my.plaid.com.

5. Disposal

Deleted data is removed from production systems, and from backups and logs where applicable, using secure methods that prevent recovery.

6. Security controls

TLS 1.2 or higher in transit, least-privilege access to stored data, and administrative access limited to authorized people.

7. Compliance and review

This policy follows Canadian privacy law and general data protection principles. It's reviewed regularly and updated when our systems or practices change.

Terms of Service

These terms are a binding agreement between you and Husein Mokbel, operating the Spensei app as a sole proprietorship ("Spensei," "we," "us"). By downloading, accessing, or using the app you agree to them, including the sections on no professional advice, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law. If you do not agree, do not use the app. Last updated October 1, 2026.

1. What Spensei is

  • Spensei is a personal finance information tool that organizes your spending and the accounts you connect, explains them, and offers general educational guidance.
  • Spensei is not a bank, broker, money services business, or licensed financial, tax, investment, or legal advisor, and nothing in the app is professional advice or a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any product or security.
  • Spensei is software only. It does not hold, move, invest, or take custody of your money and cannot execute transactions; it has read-only access to the accounts you connect through Plaid. Spensei is not insured by the CDIC, FDIC, or any deposit or investor protection scheme.
  • Content is generated in part by artificial intelligence and is for information and education only. Using Spensei does not create any advisory, fiduciary, or professional relationship. All financial decisions are your own, and you assume full responsibility and risk for any action you take. Do your own research and consider consulting a qualified, licensed professional before acting.
  • You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to use Spensei.

2. Accuracy

  • Insights depend on the data you provide, the purchases your automation sends, and the data your bank returns through Plaid. Banks occasionally return incomplete or delayed data.
  • We work to keep classifications accurate but do not guarantee every figure is error-free. Verify important numbers against your bank statements.

3. Subscriptions and billing

  • Spensei offers an optional auto-renewable subscription, Spensei Pro. After a limited number of free messages each week, continued use of the AI assistant requires a subscription.
  • Subscriptions are billed through your Apple App Store account and renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • You can manage or cancel anytime in your App Store account settings. Any free trial converts to a paid subscription unless cancelled before it ends. Prices are shown in the app before purchase.
  • Fair use: all plans, including Spensei Pro and its free trial, are for normal personal use and are subject to reasonable weekly and daily limits that keep the service fast, sustainable, and secure. We may adjust these limits and may throttle or suspend automated, abusive, or excessive usage.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's standard policies; you can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

4. Acceptable use

  • Use Spensei only for your own personal finances.
  • Do not abuse, overload, reverse-engineer, scrape, or automate excessive requests against the service, and do not attempt to access other users' data. We may rate-limit or suspend accounts that abuse the service.

5. Third-party services

  • Bank connectivity is provided by Plaid and is subject to Plaid's End User Privacy Policy and terms.
  • AI responses are generated using Anthropic. Payments are handled by Apple. Your use of those features is also subject to their terms.

6. Disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification

  • To the maximum extent permitted by law, the app is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, that bank data returned through Plaid will be accurate or complete, that information sourced from public web searches will be current or correct, or that any insight will lead to a particular financial outcome.
  • Responses are generated by artificial intelligence and can be inaccurate, out of date, or incomplete. They are educational information, not professional advice, and should not be relied on as a statement of fact. You are responsible for evaluating any output before relying on it, and for verifying important numbers against your official bank records.
  • To the maximum extent permitted by law, Spensei and its owner will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, savings, data, goodwill, or financial loss, arising from your use of or reliance on the app, even if advised of the possibility. Our total aggregate liability for all claims will not exceed the greater of (a) what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) CAD $100. Where a jurisdiction does not allow these limits, our liability is limited to the smallest amount permitted by law.
  • You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Spensei and its owner from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your use of the app, your violation of these terms or any law, or your reliance on the app in making a financial decision.

7. Termination and changes

  • You may stop using Spensei at any time, disconnect your bank, and delete your data from within the app.
  • We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these terms, and may update these terms from time to time, with the date noted above.

8. Governing law and disputes

  • These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
  • Before starting any formal claim, you agree to contact us at mokbel.huss@gmail.com and try in good faith to resolve the matter informally for at least thirty days. Any dispute that cannot be resolved this way is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Ontario, Canada, and you consent to that venue.
  • The sections that by their nature should survive termination, including disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law, continue to apply. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remain in effect.
  • Nothing in these terms limits any consumer rights that cannot be waived under the laws of your place of residence.
